TANDEM – Mentoring and Vocational Assistance for Migrant Youth

TANDEM is a transnational mentoring programme that has been devised to address some of the problems surrounding the under-achievement of migrant youth across Europe. The countries participating are Austria, Germany, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and United Kingdom. From February 2007, around 60 migrant youngsters between 13 and 25 years will be attached to a professional mentor for a nine month period. The mentors who have been specially selected to suit each individual, will encourage, motivate, inspire and serve as positive role models.  In each country, the mentors will come from a range of different cultural and social backgrounds. The aims of the project are to increase the youngsters’ self-initiative and self-confidence as well as to support them on their way towards a better education and professional future.

The project is co-financed by the European Commission.
